Simple Tips for Making the Most of your Decking

Garden Deck with a Water Feature

Having a decked area can be a great addition to your garden; it’s the perfect spot for entertaining and relaxing and adds a new aspect to your outdoor space. But, after having your decking installed, you may be wondering how you can make the most of it. How can you maximise it’s potential? Well, we here at Quality Decking know a thing or two about just that! Here’s our advice on how to make the most of your decked area.

Keep it in Good Condition

This is the most obvious tip to making the most of your decking. By keeping yours in good condition, it ensures that you’ll be able to enjoy all of the great things it brings for many years to come! Anyway, who wants to spend time on some worn-out decking? Make sure you know how to treat your wood and clean it regularly, removing debris that could cause damage.

Create Zones

If you have a fairly large decked area, you’ll have the lucky perk of being able to create different zones. This’ll ensure you’re using all the space you have. You could have an area for dining, with tables & chairs and, an area for relaxing with outdoor sofas and heating equipment, and even a designated barbeque area! You could also have spots for a kids’ play area – the possibilities are endless.

Plant Lovers

To blend your decking with the rest of your garden, add a few potted plants here and there. This’ll add a more natural, ‘outdoorsy’ feel and make the area look more pleasant to relax in. Choose plant pots that go with the look of both your decking and garden and place them in areas that won’t take up too much room and can be supported above the deck surface to ensure soil doesn’t get trapped.

Add Some Privacy

If you’re worried about your neighbours being able to peer down at you whilst you’re trying to relax on your decking, there are ways to make it feel more private. Firstly, make sure you have a high fence or wall separating you from next doors garden. You can also add a large parasol to your table (if you have one), which will cover the area from above a bit more. For a more aesthetic and natural look, build a wooden arch or roof over your deck, leaving gaps in between each slat of wood so light can still enter. You can even grow climbing plants that’ll cover your arch.

Natural Noises

Adding a small water feature with running water can create a zen-like feel on your decking. This can be an especially good feature to drown out surrounding noises and help you to really relax, creating a lovely ambience.
